The school is located in a large, two-story brick building with a spacious playground and fields for outside activities. Nineteen modern classrooms provide a basic instructional setting in which the student/teacher ratio is capped at 5:1 for core academic instruction. More spacious classrooms are specially equipped as a science laboratory, writing labs and a state-of-the-art computer room.
The facility also includes a well equipped library, offices, conference room, tutorial rooms, nurse’s office, social worker’s room, speech pathologist’s room, and faculty room. The cafeteria with a large kitchenette also serves as the art studio. Ongoing renovations continue to transform the building to better serve the student’s unique educational needs. As an example, the largest room in the school is the multipurpose room which functions as an auditorium, assembly hall, theater, and gym. It also contains state-of-the-art audio visual equipment that can play CDs, DVDs, and access the internet. With the push of a button, a 20 x 10 foot screen drops from the ceiling and converts the room into a movie theater or a connected conference room. A camera mounted in the ceiling allows family members, who are unable to travel, to watch the children’s theater productions.
Since 2000, the school has focused on improving its technology. New servers were purchased along with new computers bringing the total number of computers available to the students to 43. The school introduced state-of-the-art assistive technology programs in 2006. These programs include Don Johnston’s Solo software (Write: OutLoud, Co:Writer, Draftbuilder, and Read:OutLoud), Inspiration and Kidspiration.
