Parents as Partners
Parent involvement is a vital component of the Villa Maria experience. The school views parents as partners in the education of their children and values their support. Faculty and staff hold regular parent-teacher conferences three times a year.
Parents are afforded the opportunity to participate in all meetings to develop, review, or revise the educational program for their child and to receive reports of their child’s progress. At the initial conference in October, the IEP is reviewed and approved. In February parents receive progress grades on the IEP and extensive narrative reports. In May parents receive final progress grades on the IEP and end of the year narrative reports.
Parents have the right to inspect and review their child’s test results and comprehensive reports. Parents who wish a conference at any other time may make an appointment through the school office or directly with the teacher. Additional conferences may also be requested by teachers and scheduled as needed.
In addition, an Open School Night is held during the first month of school to provide an opportunity for parents to meet teachers, become familiar with their child’s classroom expectations and school policies, and become acquainted with other parents.
Because the school values communication with parents, all teachers and staff have e-mail and voice mail. Parents are encouraged to contact teachers directly if they have a question or concern.
