Hans Christian Anderson
struggled in school
Young Hans suffered all kinds of fears in school and often faked cramps, which were falsely diagnosed as epileptic fits. But private tutoring helped him pass examinations and at the age of 23 he became a writer. Anderson (1805-1875) wrote 168 fairy tales that have delighted children and adults everywhere, including 'The Ugly Duckling' and 'The Little Mermaid,' his most intimate works.
