Speech and Language Services

Villa Maria employs a full-time speech and language pathologist who provides push in services in classes for observation of students, group instruction, and consultation with teachers about strategies for improving instruction.

In addition, the in-house therapist evaluates individual students to determine the need for speech services and groups students with similar needs for small group sessions. There is no cost for these services.

If a student needs individual speech services, the cost of these services is contracted by the family with the individual therapist or may, in some cases, be paid by your school district. Services may be scheduled here at school.

The speech and language pathologist reviews outside speech-language evaluations, provides assistance in understanding assessment findings, and offers suggestions for implementing the communication needs presented. She provides in-service programs for teachers and parents on topics related to communication development.

Speech and language therapy may focus on auditory comprehension and processing, articulation skills, pragmatic language, receptive and expressive language, word retrieval strategies, and skills and strategies to maximize success in the classroom.
