Since Lia intends to get a certification so she can work with young children, she wanted to get some experience. Lia was amazing. It was like having another teacher in the class. On Lia’s last day, at morning assembly, we presented Lia with a card and gift for her service to Villa Maria School. Lia, in turn, gifted all the students, teachers and staff with her melodic voice and sang a song from her performance of The Little Mermaid. Wow! What talent! Lia is now back at school in Cambridge, but we hope she visits again.

Here is what he wrote in a recent email:
Hello Sister Carol Ann! Wow, it’s been a while since I have talked to you. I want to first personally tell you going to Villa when I was in 4th grade was the best decision my family ever made me do. This school has made me who I am now and taught me how to become a well-rounded person. Without Villa I wouldn’t be able to write this email to you. You taught me how to read and write. Lindamood-Bell is the BEST reading program in the whole world. Over the years I've always mentioned Villa Maria to people in my life from job interviews or even having conversations. It’s been a long journey for myself starting with my degree at Dean College in Franklin, MA while playing my favorite sport, baseball, there for two years. I was grateful and lucky to keep my baseball dreams alive playing at a Division 2 school in Assumption College in Worcester, MA. While there, I met a lot of great friends and teachers. After two years there, I continued to try and finish my degree. So I was working full time with my dad and finishing my Bachelors at Manhattanville College in Sports Studies and currently finishing my Masters there now in Physical Education. I’ve known my whole life that I'm meant to teach children to play sports and teach them life lessons that we learn from sports. Being in my last semester at Manhattanville, I’m currently student teaching at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, NY until May doing physical education. I’ve been lucky enough to be their head freshman baseball coach for the past 3 years and assistant varsity. I would love to meet with you soon and give you an update on my life and hear about yours. Becoming a teacher, I would love to come and see how everything is going there and the new physical education program that you have provided.

Sinan wrote: “Looking back, I can see how much Villa Maria has been a positive influence on me, and along with my parents really pointed me in the right direction. I went to Columbia University where I majored in Biomedical Engineering. I joined ROTC and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Army National Guard. A few years later I transferred to the Air National Guard as a Bioenvironmental Engineering Officer. At the same time I also worked full time as a manager of an imaging lab at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation in New York City. While I do that, I was finishing my Masters from Columbia. I am currently working in clinical sales with Philips Healthcare which I started in 2014. I've accomplished so much since Villa Maria and I really believe that if it had not been for that experience I would not be where I am today.”
