“Dad Saw Duty in Bay of Pigs”

In the midst of the Cold War, George Cassidy joined the Guard to avoid being drafted into the U.S. Army, and counted himself lucky to have averted the infantry between the Korean and Vietnam wars. “I was right on the joint,” he told the students at the Villa Maria School. I was too young for the Korean War and almost too old for Vietnam. Mr. Cassidy, joined by five other veterans at Villa Maria School, was marking Veteran's Day one day early and sharing stories of their deployments in Afghanistan, Vietnam, Thailand.
